Sturdy Shoe

Passage: 1 John 3:16-24
Faith is not about perfection—it is about abiding in the love of God, even when we falter.
In 1 John, we are reminded that living in Christ is shaped by three things: believing in Jesus as Lord, loving one another continuously, and pursuing obedience to God. These guideposts shape our faith, but they do not determine God’s faithfulness to us.
Too often, we measure our closeness to God by how strong our faith feels, how well we love, or how obedient we have been. But what happens when our faith wavers, when love feels difficult, or when we struggle to obey? Does God withdraw from us? No. His love is like a sturdy shoe—it does not break when we stumble.
We are not held by our ability to hold on to God; we are held by his unfailing love. Even in weakness, uncertainty, or failure, God remains faithful. He abides in us, even when we feel unworthy. This is the confidence we have in Christ: his love sustains us, not our own strength.
