What Sets You on Fire?
Preacher: The Rev. Logan Hurst
Scripture: John 14:8-17
On Pentecost, something unseen broke into the visible world. Wind, fire, and words filled with power. But the deeper miracle wasn’t just noise or spectacle—it was the Spirit moving in. The invisible became intimate.
We often think of the Holy Spirit as a mystery, an energy, a vague presence. But Jesus speaks of the Spirit as an Advocate—a presence who comes alongside, abides within, and empowers us to live and love like him. The Spirit isn’t reserved for the elite or the extraordinary. He is given to every believer.
We don’t always feel this power. Sometimes it feels like the lights are out. We long for the certainty and power of Pentecost. But Pentecost wasn’t a one-time event—it was the beginning of a new kind of normal. A life in which followers of Jesus are filled, led, convicted, and renewed by a power they can’t see but can always trust.
You don’t have to generate your own spiritual strength. You are not alone. The Spirit still burns. He still guides. He still transforms. And he comes where he is welcomed.
So open the door. Let the Advocate in. Live like the power is on.
