Sermons at St. Andrew’s

God’s Heard Word
Because we worship an incarnate Lord whose Word became flesh, scripture is chiefly meant to be heard — spoken words landing on us from outside ourselves — and like rain in Isaiah's prophecy, God's heard word accomplishes far more than watering our religious lives: it causes thoroughgoing, unexpected flourishing across our marriages, work, sicknesses, and whole selves. Our proper response, then, is not silent pondering but audible reply: to shout, sing, and speak back, joining the mountains and meadows that clap and shout for joy.

The Path of Suffering
Let us commit ourselves again to discipleship, with all of its costs, and holy lives worthy of Jesus Christ, the one who chooses the path of suffering for us.
The Highest of Expectation
When we strive toward perfection with Jesus forever in our sight, the impossible becomes possible.
Called Forth From the Field
It’s not about what we’ve done. It’s about who we are becoming.
Let the Word of God Go First
Sharing our faith is not made easier by thinking we have to do it in our own words. God’s given us a whole book of good words to use.
No Interchangeable Parts
In heaven everyone will love the other as himself and thus enjoy the other’s happiness as much as his own. In this way, everyone will possess the happiness of everyone else, and each individual the totality of happiness.
