Bishop Price is here this Sunday
Dear Friends,
He wears a pointy hat... he has a purple shirt... he’s been regularly prayed for in the Prayers of the People for over a year... and now, at long last, this Sunday, he’s going to be at St. Andrew’s. The eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas, The Right Rev. Robert P. Price, will be celebrating at the 9 and 11 am services.
This is called an “episcopal visitation.” Them’s some hifalutin words (because we’re like that), but they just mean “bishop’s visit.” The bishop is the head of our diocese, the chief of our local leaf of Christ’s great Church that branches throughout time and space.
Obviously, this means that we will get to see the bishop. He will be our Celebrant and Preacher. For those of you that aren’t terribly involved in the church at the diocesan level, this may be the first time you’ve interacted with him. We will get to hear something of his heart for the diocese of which we are a part and — most importantly — of his love for Jesus Christ. We look forward to his sharing the gospel with us. This will be a gift to us.
Perhaps less obviously, but just as importantly, the bishop gets to see St. Andrew’s. He gets to see first-hand something of the great good work God is up to here. He gets to see our growing congregation, sense our heart for our community that we serve, and — most importantly — experience our love of Jesus Christ. I pray this will be a gift and encouragement to him — and ask that you join in attending, worshipping, and welcoming on Sunday to make sure it is so.
We are especially excited that on Sunday he will confirm eight and receive three others into our fellowship. The sacrament of Confirmation and the rite of Reception are means of God’s grace and evidence of the rootedness that God is nurturing here. I know you’ll want to support and welcome those of our brothers and sisters who are being confirmed and received.
It will be a glorious Sunday! See you soon.
In Christ,
Fr. Andrew
