Fr. Logan Writes from Oxford, England

Dear Friends,

Greetings in Christ from Oxford, England! What on earth am I doing here? Well, believe it or not, I am here for continuing education—taking a course in apologetics (shocking, I know).

Oxford is stunning, with its rich history, beautiful architecture, and some of the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. It has been an honor to just walk some of the same paths as people like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and so many more that have influenced my spiritual journey. As I walk these streets and paths, and through beautiful buildings, thinking about the work these incredible people have done, I find myself reflecting on one question:

“What do I do with the time I have left?”

I’m not reflecting on what to do with the rest of my time in Oxford, rather, I am reflecting on the time I have left in this life. How am I going to make a difference for the kingdom of heaven?

In scripture we see over and over again the immediacy in which people moved to further the message of Christ’s work in the world. Peter and the apostles after receiving the Holy Spirit moved instantly to share the Gospel. Paul, after his conversion, didn’t stop working for the sake of Christ even while in prison. Mary Magdalene at Jesus’ resurrection was commissioned to announce the good news to the disciples. The woman at the well went immediately to share with her townspeople. The list goes on and on.

There is a message here for all of us that believe in Jesus. The message of spreading the Gospel to all corners of the earth. Of course, “the corners of the earth” can feel like a rather overwhelming task for us. But the furthest corners of McKinney, North Dallas, and DFW would be a great start! This message of love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness is something each of us knows intimately, and it is a message the world needs to hear. My prayer is that you will continue to join me in spreading the message of Jesus Christ to all that will listen.

I would be remiss if I didn’t leave you with at least one quote:

“I wish it need not have happened in my time.” Said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” - J.R.R. Tolkien

As for the time I have left here in England—well, Mikey’s asked for a picture of Big Ben. Off to London!

Peace and Grace,
Father Logan
