The Triduum Begins – Come Walk it With Us

Dear Friends,

Today begins the Triduum — the three Holy Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday that culminate in the glorious celebration of Easter on Sunday.

We are going to have a wonderful Easter celebration: a beautiful (if chilly) sunrise service at the Garden Chapel, with the kindling of the new fire, bells, and baptismal vows; a simple and holy 8 am service; the energy and excitement and Spirit-filled worship at 9 am; an egg hunt taking place amid drifting confetti; and then the richness of our traditional music worship with the choir and the Hallelujah chorus at 11 am.

Easter will be awesome.

But I urge you not to sleep, literally or figuratively, on the next three days. I’ve never had anyone decide to add one of the Triduum services to their observance of this season who didn’t then say something like, “Wow. That was worth it. I had no idea.”

Tonight is Maundy Thursday, among the most beautiful and striking services of the year — full of love and service but also ending in darkness. Worship begins at 7 pm.

The Watch follows the Maundy Thursday service and continues all night and into the morning Friday. If you’ve never done it, there’s really no good way to explain how holy and powerful it is. You just have to try it; and there are still some slots available, see the sign-up form.

Speaking of the morning on Friday, our Stations of the Cross in downtown McKinney will start at 7:30 am at Centro on the Square. It will be moving, powerful, and connect the story of Good Friday to your daily life in this community like never before.

Traditional Stations of the Cross will take place on St. Andrew’s front lawn at 11:30 am, followed by the Good Friday solemn liturgy at 12 noon.

Finally, we’ll end the day with a family Good Friday journey with Jesus, from the Last Supper through the tomb, at 5 pm on Friday.

And then... then we will await the coming of the Easter dawn, that glorious hope of light and life that is ours through Jesus Christ Our Lord! I can’t wait to celebrate with you on Sunday.

In Christ,
Fr. Andrew
