Join us in the Observance of a Holy Lent

Lenten Weekly Schedule

Tuesdays

Morning Prayer

7:45 am at the Garden Chapel
February 20 - March 19

Mid-week Morning Prayer according to The Book of Common Prayer. Morning Prayer is a wonderful service to center your week and reconnect with God. The service will be at our beautiful Garden Chapel, and will last about 30 minutes. In case of inclement weather, we’ll meet in the Great Hall.

Wednesdays

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (Dinner & Discipleship)

6:30 pm in Michie Hall
February 21 - April 17

Take a new step into a deeper walk with the Lord! This course offers a roadmap for discipleship with Jesus that is powerfully transformative, unveiling what’s wrong with common definitions of "spiritual growth" and offering steps based on core biblical principles of change that will help you experience authentic faith, forgiveness, reconciliation, and hunger for God.

This pilot class began on February 21 and is running through April 10.

Fridays

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

12 noon in the Great Hall
February 16 - March 22

An hour-long space for quiet individual prayer before the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the sacrament. Because it is individual prayer, you can come anytime in the hour and stay for as long or as short a time as you desire. For those who have never participated in this devotional practice, resources will be available to help guide your prayers and thoughts in the presence of our Lord.

Sundays

Lent and the Five Senses (Adult Discipleship)

10:15 am (between services) in Michie Hall
February 18 - March 17

Allow the five physical senses to help you better participate emotionally with the season of Lent. Each Sunday morning we will focus on one of the five senses (touch, sight, smell, sound, and taste) and use that sense to foster a deeper engagement with the bible stories taught, read, and re-enacted during the season.

What is Lent?

It was the practice of Early Christians to observe “a season of penitence and fasting” in order to prepare for Easter. This season has become known as Lent. Lent is forty days long, not counting Sundays, extending from Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, through Holy Saturday, the day before Easter.

You are invited “to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word.”

Stations of the Cross

An Audio Devotion

Early Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land often made it a practice to visit the places of Jesus' Passion. Stations of the Cross imitates this practice and is a popular devotion, frequently participated in during Lent.

The liturgy for The Way of the Cross can be found here.

This audio devotion is adapted from The Way of the Cross from The Book of Occasional Services with special station descriptions written and voiced by Ginny Lamoureux. Originally aired as an episode of the podcast St. Andrew's Present, it has been rehosted for the use of all.

Stations of the Cross was produced by Tim Jenkins. Special thanks to Carolyn, Michael, and Joshua Nicketta, Tracy Hutchinson, Laura and Syd Verinder, Stephanie Jenkins, David and Ginny Lamoureux, and the Rev. Deacon Pam Fairley for lending their voices to this project.

Songs featured in this production are “Now is the Time to Leave” by August Wilhelmsson, “Tomorrow’s Rain” by Hushed, and “Growing Love” by Josef Bel Habib.
