God Welcomes Our Questions
Preacher: The Rev. Deacon Erica Andersen
Scripture: John 20:19-31
Thomas is often remembered as the doubter—the one who needed to see before he could believe. But maybe Thomas isn’t so different from the rest of us.
All the disciples doubted at first. All of them struggled to believe Mary Magdalene’s news. And even when Jesus appeared among them, their faith grew slowly. Thomas just happened to voice his questions out loud. And when he did, Jesus didn’t shame him. Jesus met him.
Faith isn’t blind. It isn’t a rejection of reason or an unwillingness to ask hard questions. Faith invites us to come closer, to see, to touch, to seek. Faith holds space for the mind to wrestle and the heart to be healed.
When Thomas finally saw the scars, he didn’t need to touch them. He simply fell before Jesus and cried out, “My Lord and my God.” His doubt became worship. His questioning heart found its home.
Jesus still welcomes our doubts, our fears, and our searching. He calls us not to cover our ears but to come and see—to bring our whole selves to him. To a world longing for meaning, hope, and love, the invitation remains open: Come and see.
