The Discipleship Disclaimer

Jesus doesn’t hide the hard parts of discipleship. He’s startlingly honest: to follow him means letting go of the things we usually cling to—our social status, our self-image, our comforts, even our attachments to relationships and possessions. But he doesn’t say this to push us away. He says it so we’ll be ready. Because when we give up the world’s definitions of success, safety, and worth, we receive something far greater.

The cost of following Jesus is real. But so is the reward. We don’t give things up for nothing—we do it to receive the life he offers. One that’s deeper, freer, and more joy-filled than anything the world can give. A life shaped by forgiveness instead of revenge, humility instead of ego, love instead of fear.

Jesus warns us like a good doctor might: “Here are the side effects. But take the medicine—it works.”
