Welcome Deacon Katie!

Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to share with you that this Sunday we will be welcoming the newest member of our clergy team, the Rev. Deacon Katie Gerber. I’ve known Deacon Katie for years, and I’m thrilled Bishop Sumner appointed her to St. Andrew’s.

This will be Deacon Katie’s first Sunday with us, but she has been around at many of our non-Sunday events the last several weeks. That’s not because we’ve been trialing a “soft launch” of her ministry here, but because Katie's full-time role is on the Bishop’s staff as the Director for Camp All Saints and the Missioner for youth ministry for the Diocese of Dallas. That means that many Sundays she is out and about with the bishop or on other church visits.

But when she’s not at her diocesan obligations, she’ll be with us! Katie brings with her a vibrant spirit and a lifetime of dedication to serving others. Here are a few things to know about Deacon Katie before you meet her:

  • A Heart for Youth: Katie has been working in children’s and youth ministry since 1996 and is passionate about helping young people find their place in God’s kingdom. Many of our kids and youth know her from summer camp.

  • A Legacy of Service: Before her ordination in 2021, Katie dedicated 30 years to the state of Texas working for Child Protective Services, serving families and vulnerable populations.

  • Family Life: She has been married to her husband, John, for over 35 years. She is a proud mother of two daughters and “Mimi” to “three glorious grandchildren:” Liam, Connor, and baby Holland.

Please take a moment this Sunday to stop by and give Deacon Katie a warm St. Andrew’s welcome. Her family will be with her at the 9:00 am service, and I’m sure you’ll welcome them warmly as well.

A Friendly Name Tag Note: With a new face among our clergy, this Sunday is the perfect day to put on a nametag! Of course, really every Sunday is a great time to wear one. I know you know who you are, but not everyone else does. This small gesture that helps us know one another by name, deepening the relationships that ultimately lead us closer to Christ.

See you Sunday!

In Christ,
Fr. Andrew
